  • Initially started with a capacity of 34 Burns beds and 18 beds for Plastic Surgery cases.
  • He was single to start the department and was later joined by Dr. Thakur Hameer Singh and Dr. Raghava Reddy.
  • There were no separate Ots,Wards or staff at the hospital for the plastic surgery department.
  • Had to share everything with other established super-specialities like neurosurgery and CT Surgery and basic specialities like General Surgery.
  • Had to face intense opposition from other departments such as General Surgery, Anaesthesia etc. while conducting surgeries such as Cleft Lip, Cleft Palate, Burns, Post-burns Sequalae etc.
  • Had to face a lot of adversities to build up this department during those times.
  • It was literally a hard time to even take cases inside the designated Operation theatres.
  • All variety of cases were done at this department ranging from Clefts, Post Burns Sequelae Surgery, Reconstructive surgeries following Trauma, Head and Neck tumours, etc.
  • The main motto of the department and the concerned surgeons was to do as many cases as possible and at the same time help the less fortunate people with high quality healthcare.
  • He was also instrumental in starting the departments in Kurnool, Vizag, Warangal, Gandhi Medical College and MNJ Oncology Institute.
  • Documentation of Cases with case sheets and photographs were maintained properly.
  • Lot of hard work and pain had to be undertaken to maintain them in a pristine manner.
  • Despite all the adversities, he could bring up this great Department and Unit from scratch with the help of Dr Raghava Reddy.
  • Dr. Raghava Reddy and Dr. D.L.N. Prasad were like twin plastic surgeons and shared a great bond where in they complemented each other in their academic and surgical qualities and made everything successful with their teamwork.
  • After developing the department, sent the proposal for starting Post graduation in Plastic Surgery in 1986.
  • Finally MCh Plastic Surgery was started in 1986 after 15 years of conception of the department; Dr. Sudarshan (Retd. Prof and HOD of Plastic Surgery, Kurnool) was the first post graduate followed by Dr. Mohan Krishna (Retd.
